Vegas is the Worst

So back in January, Celisse's birthday dream was to see Celine Dion. I was on board with this plan (mostly to get to a warmer climate, celebrate a birthday of a dear friend, and have some good girlfriend time) even though Vegas is a strange place. But the people and the food make all the difference so....off we went - me, Celisse, Meghan and Julie.

We left later than expected on a Friday night and landed in a smokey old casino that had a restaurant we wanted to try. Hash Hash A Go Go - incredible portions. And when you're Mormon and not engaging in other Vegas pleasures, why not just eat everything in sight?

I was trying to be a little healthy, but that's a salad with a good chunk of fried chicken on top.

And don't forget the dessert, because, birthdays.

Saturday morning we attempted to hike out at Red Rock Canyon. It was pretty cold and windy, so we drove the loop and did a little walking.

And we're terrible at selfies.

Definitely a better part of Vegas.

All that hiking means more food! Celisse loves BabyStacks, so we went for brunch.

Did not disappoint. And I don't even love pancakes.

What else to do in Vegas? Shopping. Outlets. And I didn't buy a single thing.

Then Celisse's favorite place in all of Vegas - Freed's Bakery! It was amazing.

One of our many samplings of cake.

Then it was time for the big show. We prepped with a little nap before heading off to Caesar's palace. We arrived with time to spare, so Meghan and I went to explore. First stop, the roulette table to figure out how I would play it later (more to come on that) and then we wanted to see if anyone was getting married.

They weren't. But it was pretty!

The show. A terrible selfie to remind us of our experience.

This woman can sing. I mean, we all knew that, but it's another thing to see her show. And she awkwardly rambles and says odd things, but it's great.

I tried to count all the hand gestures and chest poundings.

She took selfies while singing and didn't miss a single note.

We had the hots for the guitar player.

So does Celine.

Okay. Now it's time to play roulette. Long story short - a coworker gave me money to gamble when he heard I was going to Vegas. I had specific instructions on how to lose $10 on roulette, ended up having to put in a bit of my own money ($20 - high roller, I know) and somehow I played 2 rounds of roulette with bucks on number 11 and I won twice. I quickly cashed out and left that table, and I'm sure my gambling lucky streak is over. Fun while it lasted.

We spent the rest of the night wandering hotels and grabbing a snack at Serendipity 3. The Bellagio is gorgeous.

The Cosmopolitan. Kinda sad I didn't get a pay a trip to see a Jose Andres creation this time.

My $$$.

Sunday morning we hit a quick church service, then hit the road. Always a longer drive home than expected. All in all, a solid birthday weekend!
